MEET JOELISA

New Leadership Delivering Results for Our Community

Mayor Joelisa McDonald, a lifelong resident of Rankin, is deeply devoted to her neighborhood. She holds a Master's degree in Leadership from Duquesne University and has been recognized as a Western PA Rising Star by GetInvolved Inc. Her journey began in Hawkins Village Projects, where she secured her first job as a tutor at the Knowledge Connection Center. Joelisa also worshipped at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, further deepening her ties to the community. As the first college graduate in her family, she obtained a Bachelor's degree in Communications from Point Park University.

At the age of 23, Joelisa demonstrated her commitment to Rankin by purchasing her first home in the neighborhood, providing a permanent foundation for herself and her son. She is known for her passion for giving back to the community, evident in her role as a certified foster mother who has cared for numerous children over the years. Despite working full-time at UPMC she dedicates her time to regular volunteer work at local non-profit organizations and remains actively engaged on community boards. Joelisa advocates for the less fortunate and contributes significantly to the region by sharing her knowledge and resources.

Joelisa's thirst for knowledge and eagerness to learn have led her to become one of Pittsburgh's top cake artists, inspiring others to pursue their passions. Her outstanding contributions have earned her several accolades, including being named one of Pittsburgh's 100 Beautiful Brown and Bold Women in 2016, serving as a compassionate food rescue ambassador for 412FoodRescue in 2017, and receiving the Unsung Brown Mama of the Year Award in 2018. Additionally, she spearheaded the Antwon Rose 1st Annual Community Day in Hawkins Village in 2019, The Annual Rankin Community Day and has been invited to sit on panels and deliver presentations to various audiences.

As a mayoral candidate, Joelisa's platform centers around planning, execution, and accountability for all stakeholders, including Rankin residents, elected officials, churches, and businesses. She believes that by working together, Rankin can regain its former glory and restore the resources it once enjoyed. Her vision includes beautifying the community, prioritizing safety, fostering transparency, rebuilding relationships with community partners, and creating a welcoming environment for businesses.

With her enthusiasm and qualifications, Joelisa McDonald is not only excited to contribute to Rankin's resurgence but also fully equipped to lead the way.
